Description:

"I made this cello in 2021, using a personal model inspired by an instrument made by Petrus Guarneri of Venice in 1735.

I cannot escape the fascination of the work of this luthier, who was the brother of Guarneri del Gesù, and the maker of Antonio Vivaldi's violin. In his art he combined the Cremonese school with the oriental and Tyrolean influences of the Venetian school. I feel at home in his geography of lines, where I find the city where I learnt violin making, my Dolomite origins and echoes of the Levantine places that have inspired my music and works, such as Concerto Bizantino for cello and orchestra.

For this cello, I used hazel spruce from the Antholz-Anterselva Dolomites and Balkan maple with a narrow year-rings and deep, descending flames. The ribs are made from the same piece as the back. I varnished it with Amber linseed honey-brown oil varnish with reddish reflections of madder lack.

Measurements (taken on the back): Length: 75 cm, Upper bouts: 34.8 cm, CC: 23 cm, Lower bouts: 43.2 cm

I have played this instrument in several concerts and recordings, and have hesitated for a long time to part with it because of its acoustic qualities and ease of playing, but now the time has come to entrust it to a new cellist, who will develop its qualities with new musical adventures, to send it out into the world and discover the voice of its next brother instrument!"
