Konrad Kohlert was born in 1957 in Hagenau. As the son of an instrument maker, he discovered his love for this profession at an early age. At the age of 12, under the guidance of his father, he carved his first violin scroll.
At 15, Kohlert began his training with master violin maker Ernst-Heinrich Roth in Bubenreuth, as well as at the violin making school in Mittenwald. After completing his apprenticeship in 1976 and working for several years in his father’s workshop, he passed his master craftsman’s examination in Nuremberg in 1987. Since then, he has been self-employed and runs a workshop in Poxdorf near Forchheim.
Kohlert is a member of the Guild of String and Plucked Instrument Makers in Erlangen and of the Association of German Violin Makers. His main focus is on making copies of old master violins. His principal model is a copy of a violin by Joseph Guarnerius del Gesú from 1741.
